River Park is ICONSIAM’s waterfront park and plaza right next to the Chao Phraya River. While the capital’s main waterway is an attraction for both locals and visitors alike, there are few spots providing public access to the river’s edge. Located in front of the glass pavilion of ICONLUXE, River Park is a sprawling 10,000 square meters space running parallel to the river that is connected to ICONSIAM’s piers that shuttles all to and from other important nodes. The park features grey tiles laid carefully to mimic the flow and curves of the river and “flows” harmoniously with pools of water and verdant trees accenting the plaza.
Stepping out of ICONLUXE onto River Park, one immediately sees the best of historic Bang Rak and Creative District on the opposite side of the river. The Embassy of Portugal, Old Customs House, Embassy of France, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, and East Asiatic Company are all lined up to show how these buildings once operated with their main entrances facing the river before the advent of roads and automobiles. One can take in the sweeping north to east to south river vistas to appreciate the unique Thai river life.
River Park is to play host to many festivals and celebrations throughout the year. Be on the lookout for special performances and events during Loi Krathong and New Years. To enhance the visitor’s experience, ICONSIAM has installed ICONIC Multimedia Water Feature. This 400 meters light-and-sound dancing fountain, the longest in Southeast Asia, runs 400 meters along the river and creates 2D, 3D and 4D water shapes that rivals the world’s best fountains.
