How to get there

  • River City Bangkok

From bustling Bangkok to ancient Ayutthaya, the Chao Phraya River’s many sights and sounds run quite the gamut. In Bangkok, one is smacked in the heart of Thailand’s modern metropolis with soaring skyscrapers towering over shophouses, recalling scenes from Blade Runner. But moving further north, the city’s dominion relaxes and transitions to the quieter countryside before entering the ruins of Siam’s previous capital. What better way to see all of it than from the perspective of the country’s most important waterway like how old Bangkokians used to?

A multitude of river cruises exist today offering a variety of itineraries. From a few hours to a full day schedule, from day trips to evening trips, from more private to larger fully outfitted ships, they are all yours to decide and choose the one that fits your needs. These water tours will most likely depart from River City Bangkok’s pier so get your start there and float you up north as far as you’d want before turning back. Some tours keep it interesting by having a bus take you out of town before returning you by boat.

And fear not, for you will never go hungry on these cruises. Sumptuous buffets serving Thai and International cuisine are guaranteed to keep guests belly full. As you return to River City’s pier, be ready to whip out your cameras to capture the magnificent edifices along the banks of Bangkok River. Grand Palace, Wat Arun, community churches and old colonial buildings, you are sure to see a lot of Thailand’s history.
