Just beyond the east bank of the river (yes you have left the security of dry land) you will find yourself back in time… at Jack’s Bar.
Perched precariously on hardwood stilts over the majestic Chao Phraya and surrounded by some of the best hotels in the world, certainly Thailand, Jack’s timber shack offers the perfect respite from the day’s heat. Spicy Thai food, chilled beer and a cool river breeze. There’s few better places to watch the sun sink behind the west bank of the river.
Jack’s Bar is a favourite for Bangkokians and visitors alike. As you sit on your rickety plastic seat and rest your drink on the counter that separates you from the boats busily doing their thing on the river, you are likely to be joined by a nearby hotel general manager on his afternoon off, a luxury tour guide and her customer, locals in the know, and a journalist plotting his next story. Cheap as chips, and no one is complaining about that.
