Ban Chao Phraya Thammasakmontri, originally built in 1899, was designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno. His most famous work includes Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, Neilson Hays Library and Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong). For the very first time, this landmark is open to the public.
Bangkok 1899 is home to Creative Migration, a women-led, international arts organisation based in Los Angeles and Bangkok with the mission to advance cultural diplomacy through the three pillars of art, public engagement and sustainability. Bangkok 1899 is Creative Migration’s new cultural and civic hub providing an intersection of art, design, urbanism and social innovation.
This international, multi-purpose center includes an artist residency, exhibition/event space, public gardens and a social impact cafe run by its partner Na Projects. The space acts as a living model of sustainability, implementing Zero Waste practices into its programs and day-to-day operations.
