8 Soi Nana was a small business and residence until 2017 when the friends, an architect and a chef, transformed the four story building into Ba Hao (number eight).

Today Ba Bao sits comfortably alongside Soi Nana boutique bars, cafes, and galleries that have spread popped up in Soi Nana, making this one of the coolest parts of town. A short walk from Hua Lamphong railway station, off Yaowarat Road and just inside the boundary of Chinatown, keep an eye out for the curb-side tables, a bright red neon logo that shines from within. Inside, there’s usually a flurry of activity on the ground floor as cocktails and food are prepared for the patrons which frequent the bar from across Bangkok and around the world. The upper floors operate as an Airbnb.

Ba Hao is compact, with intimate lighting and chilled music. The charm of Ba Hao is the restraint of the decoration – an eclectic collection of Chinese furniture and objects. A select menu of Chinese delicacies, my favourite at the end of a long hot day is the duck wontons accompanied with a chilled Tsingtao beer. But there are cocktails and plenty more dishes to choose from. To cleanse the palate, you must try their signature coriander ice cream.
