LUNAR: luculenus
‘Even though the moon is not full, it still retains its beauty.’ It’s still ambiguous why people care to look at the moon. Being just a big shining star far from earth isn’t the only reason but what makes the moon so seductive is how it’s sometimes compared to womankind – as beautiful as the moon.
That might be because we can never get enough of the moon’s shadow, as if spellbound; it’s like a black and white photo which reduces its surroundings and highlights our deep feelings.
This exhibition draws a parallel between black and white photos and the moon in dark of night – a crescent moon for some and full moon for others. ‘Lunar: Luculenus’ exhibition means in Thai, “Beauty as the moon”. It’s a get-together of artists who have different perspectives, experiences, techniques, and even preferences in shades of black but all share a common goal – the desire to reveal their own view of beauty.
“A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.”
– Ansel Adams –
